At least four states have had principled, no ‘exceptions’ ban-abortion bills

At least four states have had principled, no ‘exceptions’ ban-abortion bills active in the 2005-2006 legislative sessions:

1. North Dakota - House Bill No. 1227 (failed to pass on North Dakota House Second Reading on February 16, 2005, Yeas 019 Nays 069).

2. Georgia - House Bill HB 93 (bill introduced January 2005).

3. Ohio - House Bill 228 (bill introduced April 2005). For more information, go to http://www.ohioabortionban.com/.

4. South Carolina - House Bill H.3213 (passed SC House of Representatives April 14, 2005 albeit with a 'fatal flaw' rape EXCEPTION amendment added on the SC House floor prior to vote on Second Reading of the bill on April 13; H.3213 sent to SC Senate. This 'fatal flaw' rape EXCEPTION amendment must now either be removed by the SC Senate, or the bill must be killed. First public hearing before Subcommittee of the Senate Judiciary Committee on May 4, 2005; second public hearing before same Subcommittee on May 18, no vote was taken before session ended in June. New session began January 2006. Presently awaiting third hearing (Lord willing) before Senate Judiciary Subcommittee chaired by Senator Jim Ritchie (R-Spartanburg, Greenville, Union), FOUR out of the five state senators who can vote on the bill in this Subcommittee are REPUBLICANS (Senators Ritchie, Rankin, Scott, and McConnell). 5. South Carolina - Senate Bill S.111 (companion bill to H.3213 - first public hearing before Subcommittee of the Senate Judiciary Committee on May 4, 2005; second public hearing before same Subcommittee on May 18, no vote was taken before session ended in June.
